Now you owe them both $49.

49 + 49 = 98

You still have $1 with you.

Subtract that from what you owe them.

98 - 1 = 97

You have to save up $97 (because the shirt cost $97).

Once you’ve saved up $97, add it to your $1.

97 + 1 = 98

Divide the $98 by two (so you can give it to both your parents).

98 / 2 = 49
